A team effort from Rocky Mountain overcame Claire Hammen from Loveland’s individual dominance to claim the Front Range League gymnastics title.
Hammen won every individual event, but Rocky Mountain’s duo of Lauren Glover and Keri Peel helped the Lobos to their first conference title in more than six years, according to coach Kimberly Hufford.
Glover and Peel placed second and third respectively in the all-around competition behind Hammen. Rocky Mountain won the meet with 179.075 points, followed by Fort Collins (177.350), Mountain Range (175.675), Thornton (166.750) and Loveland (162.275).
Fort Collins’ Erica Pollack was second, behind Hammen, in the bars with a 9.625.
Regional tournaments are next week, where teams will find out who makes it to the state tournament.
LIBERY 5, RIDGEVIEW 4 — Normally allowing four goals in a second half would lead to a loss.
But the Liberty Common Soccer team scored five goals in the first half and held on to defeat Ridgeview 5-4 at the Fort Collins Soccer Complex on Wednesday night.
“It was a game built on momentum, all we needed to do was shut down their momentum in the second half,” Liberty coach Dan Knab said.
Three of Ridgeview’s four goals in the second half came from direct kicks that went over Liberty’s goalie in the wind.
Arjun Gill and Rob Knab lead the Eagles in scoring with the two goals apiece.
The win improves Liberty’s record to 7-4-3.
