Roncalli dominates host Southern Door


The Roncalli boys soccer team scored 17 minutes in and never looked back en route to a 4-0 road win over Southern Door on Thursday.

The Jets’ first goal was by Dean Waldhart with the score being 1-0 at halftime.

Four minutes into the second half Reed Waldhart scored his first goal on a corner kick and added his second 20 minutes later.

Ben Brotz scored the final Roncalli goal in the 76th minute.

Zach Berres was in net for the Jets and earned the win.

Next for the Jets it is on to the postseason as No. 11-seeded Roncalli (11-10-1, 8-8 Packerland Conference) will be at No. 6 seed St. Mary Central (11-7-2, 8-6-1 PC) on Tuesday afternoon. The pair split the regular-season series 1-1.

Green Bay Preble 5, Manitowoc Lincoln 1

The Ships trailed early, with the Division 1 No. 3 state-ranked Hornets striking first in the eighth minute and the 36th and 38th minutes to hold a 3-0 halftime advantage they wouldn’t relinquish.

Preble tallied two more goals in the 47th and 55th before Michael Olson put Lincoln (13-5-2, 4-5-2 Fox River Classic Conference) on the board in the 58th off an assist by teammate Ben Henry.

Drake Nickels was in goal for the Ships, making 19 saves compared to four by his Preble counterpart.

Lincoln returns to action as the host No. 8 seed against No. 9 and FRCC foe Green Bay Southwest in the WIAA D1 Regionals on Tuesday.
