After allowing a goal in the 10th minute the Roncalli boys soccer team bounced back and scored two unanswered goals to earn a 2-1 road win over Algoma on Thursday.
“It was a real battle, there was a lot of one-touch possessions,” Roncalli coach Donna Hodous said. “No one seemed to be able to get in for a shot, just a lot of back-and-forth (play).”
Reed Waldhart scored on a penalty kick for a handball in the box in the 20th minute for the Jets to make it 1-1 at halftime.
Ten minutes into the second half Roncalli’s Devin Veith scored on an assist from Waldhart to give the Jets their final margin of victory.
Mike Thiele was in net for Roncalli (7-7-1, 5-7 Packerland Conference) as he made five saves for the win.
The Jets will play at Port Washington tonight.
Two Rivers 1, New Holstein 0
The Raiders pulled of the win away from home against the Huskies in a defensive struggle.
Tyler Shallow broke the deadlock in the 71st minute when he went alone through the New Holstein defense to score the games only goal.
Erik Wiegand was in goal for Two Rivers (11-5, 8-2 Eastern Wisconsin Conference), making 10 saves.
Two Rivers returns to action when it hosts Waupun on Monday.
Manitowoc Lincoln 3, Ashwaubenon 0
The Ships led 2-0 at home by halftime and added an insurance goal in the second half to blank the Jaguars.
Michael Olson tallied two goals in the 10th and 70th minutes, the later of which was assisted by Connor Becka to lead Lincoln. Becka would add a goal of his own in the 21st minute off a Dan Orzol assist.
Lincoln (12-3-2, 3-3-1 Fox River Classic Conference) had 16 shots in frame compared to Ashwaubenon’s three.
