With just less than 11 minutes left in the first quarter the Roncalli football team got fooled by visiting Chilton by a 59-yard halfback option for the Tigers’ first score. The Jets weren’t going to be fooled again.
The Jets chipped away at the early deficit en route to a 20-13 upset win over visiting and No. 4-state ranked Chilton.
After Chilton added a field goal, it was all Roncalli (6-2, 6-2 Olympian Packerland-Large) as the Jets scored in the second quarter on a 26-yard run by Joey Macdonald to make it 10-7 at halftime.
Then, with 1:13 left in the third quarter, Roncalli took a 13-10 lead on Macdonald’s second score of the night, this time with an 11-yard touchdown run.
Midway through the final frame, Roncalli’s Nick Stelzer ran for a two-yard score, giving the Jets a 20-10 edge.
Stelzer ended the game with 14 rushes for 75 yards and also caught one 43-yard pass.
Macdonald finished with 109 yards on 21 carries as the Jets amassed 204 rushing yards compared to Chilton’s 98 yard.
Jared Patek threw the ball for 116 yards as he was 6-of-8 in the game. The Tigers completed just three passes all game long.
Roncalli’s Austin Schneider had two catches for 35 yards and teammate Josh Erickson had a pair of catches for 24 yards.
Chilton (7-1, 7-1 OPL) added another field goal in the final frame.
