Roosevelt hires new activities director

Over the last few years, Kelley Hood and his family slowly inched closer and closer to Iowa.
They finally made it all the way back.
Hood, a native of Belmond, has been named Roosevelt’s new activities director.
“We just like this part of the state,” Hood said. “It’s kind of like home to us.”
Hood, who worked for 11 years as the activities director at ADM of Adel, spent the last five years in the same position at Millard North in Omaha.
Before that, he worked six years as an activities director in Wisconsin.
While his work kept him out of the state, his home and heart was in Iowa. Hood’s wife of 30 years, Colleen, is a native of Grundy Center.
A return to Iowa was always on their minds.
“Kind of the big circle coming back around,” Hood said.
Hood, a graduate of Northwestern College in Orange City, has one daughter.
He said he’s still getting to know staff members at Roosevelt.
“Sometimes you’ve got to come in and walk before you can run a little bit,” Hood said. “Get a feel for the community a little bit.”
Hood replaces Keith Ellingson, who retired.
He said he has big plans for the school, including improvements to many of the facilities.
“We’ll just kind of take our time a little bit and plug through things and talk with coaches and parents,” Hood said.
