The Alisal High boys cross country team completed its sweep of the three Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division Center Meets on Wednesday at Toro Park, and Salinas edged Hollister in the girls race on a tie-breaker.

The Trojans finished with a team score of 34, placing four runners in the top 10. North County was second (63) and Salinas third (63).

Hollister’s Steven Velarde won the 3-mile race in 16 minutes, 9 seconds. His teammate Ricardo Esqueda was next in 16:41. Rounding out the top five were Alisal’s Luis Varas (16:58), Orlando Sanchez (17:07) and North County’s Oscar Mora (17:08).

Salinas’ top runner Manuel Lopez came in at 17:22.

In the girls race, Salinas and Hollister finished tied at 41-41. The tie-breaker came down to each team’s No. 6 runner, and the Cowboy runner came in three places ahead of the Baler runner.

Allisal finished third with a score of 76.

The win by Salinas gave them two of the three Center Meets. Hollister won the other one.

Hollister took the first two places with Vanessa Estrada (18:25) and Amy Quinones (19:49). Rounding out the top five were Salinas’ Malena Grover (20:12), Hollister’s Maura Forbush (20:20) and Salinas’ Leah Meuter (20:28).

Next up is the MBL Championships on Oct. 27 at Toro Park.

MBL Pacific Center Meet 3 at Pinto Lake (2.9 miles): The Seaside boys cross country team made it a clean sweep in the MBL Pacific Center Meets, finishing with a maximum 18 points.

The Spartans defeated the six other league teams in each of the three meets.

North Salinas’ Ivan Pina made it three wins in the three Center Meets, finishing with a winning time of 16:55.24. He was followed by a trio of Seaside runners — Fes Mock (16:33.07), Jose Gonzalez (16:39.68) and Zechariah Snel (16:40.41). Watsonville’s Abraham Ortiz was fifth (16:51.51) and Alvarez’s Jorge Sanchez was sixth (17:02.14).

In the girls race, Christopher went 6-0, defeating North Salinas 25-30 to take a narrow lead into the MBL championships.

Christopher has 17 overall points and North Salinas 16. The MBL Championships are Oct. 27 at Toro Park.

The Cougars were paced by the 1-2 finish of freshmen Jamie Boutteau (19:05.72) and Natalie Fillippi (20:23.46). Boutteau won all three Center Meets.

Rounding out the top five were North Salinas’ Brandi Hobson (21:04.10), Watsonville’s Sonya Cervantes (21:18.60) and Watsonville’s Crystal Ramirez (21:21.82). North Salinas’ Rebecca Lopez came in sixth in 22:01.75.

Girls golf

Santa Catalina 238, Hollister 272: At Del Monte (par 36), the Cougars completed their second straight undefeated league season with the victory over the Haybalers.

Santa Catalina (11-0 MBL) was led by Chloe Corriveau’s 1-over 37, Kiley Gibbs’ 42 and Paisley Piasecki’s 43. Hollister’s Emiley Palmquist shot a 41.

Next up is the 18-hole league championship Monday at Quail Lodge. The Cougars have won two straight league titles.

Christopher 252, Notre Dame 296: At First Tee of Monterey County (par 31), Christopher’s Natalie Gutierrez earned medalist honors with a 38 as the Cougars finished the regular season at 8-3.

Teammate Melissa Maldonado shot a 45. Notre Dame (2-8-1) was led by Alyssa Lowensen’s 40 and Miriam Gruber’s 47.

Monte Vista Christian 261, Alvarez 298: At Salinas Golf & County Club (par 36), MVC’s Jessica Fore fired a 35 to earn medalist honors and lead the Mustangs (9-2) to victory.

Alvarez (6-5) was led by Salma Arredondo’s 51 and McKenna Bowling’s 59.

Boys water polo

Monterey 11, Salinas 9: At Hartnell College, Casey DeLeuw scored six goals and Wyatt Laughlin added three as the Toreadores edged the Cowboys in MBL Gabilan play.

Tim Morse made 13 saves in goal and Austin Erben and Zach Eason each had one goal for Monterey (12-8, 5-6 league) who plays Soquel today at Aptos.

Salinas fell to 7-7 overall and 5-4 in league. It hosts Carmel today at Hartnell College.

Girls volleyball

Anzar 3, Pacific Grove 0: At Anzar, the Hawks improved to 8-2 in league with a 25-14, 25-18, 25-12 sweep of Pacific Grove.

Anzar was led by Raleigh McKinney’s 16 kills and 18 digs and Monica Medina’s 29 assists.

Girls tennis

North Salinas 4, Pajaro Valley 3: At PV (Tuesday), Singles: Christy Rodriguez (PV) def. Daphne Cia 4-6, 6-0, 10-6; Kelly Maemura (NS) def. Kati Guillen 6-2, 6-3; Dakota Gulick (NS) def. Nancy Fernandez 6-4, 6-4; Brittany Baisel (NS) def. Jenny Soriano 6-2, 6-1.

Doubles: Kiany Vela/Romina Rodriguez (PV) def. Melissa Moriyama/Kassandra Rizo 6-2, 6-3; Chelsi Ocampo/Andrea Ramos (PV) def. Yazmin Carrillo/Melissa Mulengwa 7-5, 7-6 (7-2); Frances Mendoza/Lizsandra Mendoza (NS) def. Paulina Serna/Cynthia Molina 3-6, 6-3, 10-5.
