Roundup: La Vergne, Smyrna open 7-AAA soccer play with tie

La Vergne and Smyrna opened up District 7-AAA girls soccer play with a 1-1 tie on Tuesday.

Sierra Franz scored for the Lady Bulldogs. Haley Head added an assist. Teammate Haley Munn had eight saves.

Natalie Escobar scored on an unassisted goal for La Vergne (1-1-1, 0-0-1 in 7-AAA). Emily Dillon recorded 18 saves for the Lady Wolverines.

Riverdale 3, Tullahoma 2

Madison Falter scored two goals and Stitch Leek had a goal to lead the Lady Warriors to the win. Leek and Falter also had an assist.

Boys

Smyrna 328, Oakland 332

Zach Haynes shot a 68 to lead the Bulldogs. Josh Chalfant fired an 82. David Kivalaan had 88.

Austin Pfeifer shot 76 to lead Oakland. His brother Nathan Pfeifer shot an 81.

Siegel 305, Riverdale 322, Blackman 322

Kiefer Clary fired 74 at Old Fort Golf Course to lead the Stars to the tri-match victory. Arjuna Anday shot a 75, G Rollins had a 76.

Cole Clear fired a 78 to lead Riverdale. Alex Burton had 74.

Central Magnet 159, Cannon Co. 196

Jordan Reynolds shot a 37 at WillowBrook Golf Course to lead the Tigers. Colton Miller had a 38, Logan Reynolds shot 41, Austin Tipton and T.C. Hayes each shot 42.

Briar Jakes shot a 46 to lead Cannon County.

Girls

Riverdale 150, Blackman 175, Siegel 217

Riverdale’s Erica Edwards shot a 73 and teammate Reagan Kinnie shot 77 to lead the Lady Warriors to the win at Old Fort.

Caitly Johnston shot 83 to lead Blackman. Nicole Chandler shot 102 to lead Siegel.

Volleyball

Riverdale 3, Oakland 0

Abby Shaw recorded 14 kills to lead Riverdale to a 25-13, 25-11, 25-13 win over Oakland.

Kenia Azor and Ashleigh Lozier added nine kills for the Lady Warriors (10-4, 1-0 in 7-AAA).

Kirsten Inman added 31 assists. Rachel Vehr had two blocks.

Oakland played without Katie Arnette, who is out with an ankle injury.

Shana Taylor and Rachel Todd each had three kills for Oakland (5-8, 0-1 in 7-AAA).

The Riverdale JV team won 2-0.

Blackman 3, Smyrna 0

Santana Alejandro tallied 11 kills to lead the Lady Blaze to a 25-11, 25-17, 25-21 win over the Lady Bulldogs.

Alex Johnson had eight kills and eight blocks for Blackman (6-4, 1-0 in 7-AAA). Stephanie Gurzi added six kills and five blocks. Katherine Darnell recorded six digs. Alexis Boudavong had four digs and three aces. Jess Oliver had two aces and 14 assists. Jamie Maier had two aces with 10 assists.

Franklin Road Chr. 3, Lighthouse Chr. 1

Abby Stanczak served 28 service points in FRCS’ 11-25, 25-9, 25-14, 25-18 win over host Lighthouse.

The Lady Minutemen improved to 5-3 with the win.

MTCS 3, Tullahoma Chr. 0

Jena Bartilson had 15 kills and teammate Devan Welker added 10 in the Lady Cougars’ 25-13, 25-12, 25-11 win over Tullahoma Christian.

Meredith McKnight added nine kills. Rachel Mullen had 26 assists and five aces and Abby Liddle recorded three blocks.

The MTCS JV team won 2-0.

Middle School Football

Whitworth Buchanan 40, Siegel 28

Gene Odom rushed for 306 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead Whitworth (2-1) to the road win. Kendall Green added 75 yards and a TD. Thad Chapman had six tackles and three sacks on defense.
