Roundup: Lenartowizc's OT goal carries Metuchen

Julian Lenartowizc scored the game-winner from two yards out just 20 seconds into overtime, leading the Metuchen High School boys soccer team to 3-2 victory over Middlesex in a Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division matchup on Friday.

Lenartowizc beat Middlesex goalkeeper John Castrillo to the near post. He finished with one goal and one assist to pace Metuchen (9-3).

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead as senior Ryan O’Neil scored on a direct kick at the seventh minute and senior Tom Costello scored on a feed from Lenartowicz with 20 minutes left in the first half.

The Blue Jays (5-6-2) would tie it on goals by junior Joe Korom and Gio Barbozza.

Misdea made 19 saves for the Bulldogs while Castrillo had 19 saves for the Blue Jays.

Perth Amboy Tech 3, Cardinal McCarrick 0: Freddy Corona, Alex Reyes and Gonzalo Bazan scored for Perth Amboy Tech, all in the second half. Perth Amboy Tech goalkeeper Milton Rendon recorded his eighth shutout. Cardinal McCarrick keeper Alan Pado made 21 saves.

Middlesex
Academy 3, Piscataway Tech 0: Ruky Rupasinghe scored twice for Middlesex Academy (6-4-2) while teammate Matt Pershing added another goal. Josh Trapp made 18 saves for Piscataway Tech (3-8).

South Amboy 1, Woodbridge Academy 0: Riley Rone scored the games only goal from 50 yards out for South Amboy.

Timothy Christian 7, East Brunswick Tech 0: Zach Coyle netted a hat trick for Timothy Christian while Won Joon Kin, Robert Delio, Matt Zgorzynski, and Matt Paris supplied the rest of the Tigers’ offense.

Spotswood 3, Carteret 0: Goalkeeper Andrew Pelham had a goal and an assist to go along with seven saves, picking up his sixth shutout for the Chargers (10-3). Hunter Padilla and Ryan McLaughlin also added goals in the winning effort. Carteret drops to 4-7-2.

Girls Soccer

Mother Seton 3, New Brunswick 2 (OT): New Brunswick led 2-0 after the first half thanks to Nanaana O’Hene but the Zebras (1-10) couldn’t hold off the Mother Seton rally.

Cardinal McCarrick 4, Highland Park 3: Megan Kosa had a hat trick and teammate Madison McNally added a goal. Highland Park was led by Maddie Reid’s one goal, one assist performance.

Metuchen 4, Middlesex 0: Devon Philbin tallied one goal and one assist for Metuchen (11-0-1) and Emily Corson, Emily Weiner and Kendall Agosto had the other goals. Middlesex falls to 2-10.

Carteret 3, Spotswood 1: Giselles Perez led Carteret (9-2-1) with two goals and one assist. Fiorella Doglio also scored for the Ramblers. Rebecca Hager tallied the lone Spotswood (6-6) goal.

Timothy Christian 3, South River 0: Sabrina Solorzano scored twice and Danielle Maniguet added another goal to spark Timothy Christian (6-3-1). Arielle Flores made 20 saves for South River (0-11).

Somerset Tech 4, South Amboy 3 (OT): Emily Trezcaiak and Keriane Irias scored goals for South Amboy (3-7). Goalkeeper Amber Carey made 19 saves for the Governors.

Field Hockey

Monroe
4, Piscataway 1: Jenna Parisen tallied one goal and one assist for Monroe (6-7). Brittany Ballack, Brooke Goetz, and Alexis Cashman also scored for the Falcons. Avyana Baker scored the lone Piscataway (2-11) goal.

Metuchen 4, Sayreville 0: Metuchen junior Olivia Volpe scored two goals whileClaire Dice and Tara Ali-Khan had single goals for the Bulldogs (7-5). Aditi Farsaiya and Monica Torres combined to make 17 saves for Sayreville (3-9).

South Plainfield 1, South Brunswick 0: Danielle Butrico scored the only goal as South Plainfield remained undefeated (13-0).
