SaberCats sweep Fort Collins

By

Fort Collins High had been flying past competition, riding a six-game winning streak until it lost to Greeley West on Thursday night. Now that streak has switched to a losing one as Fossil Ridge swept the Lambkins, 25-20, 25-12, 25-14 on Monday night.

And what an important win it was for Fossil Ridge, placing the SaberCats atop the Front Range League standings with a 4-0 record in conference, 7-3 overall.

“(We) played a very team-oriented game,” Fossil Ridge coach Paul Shimek said. “We served very tough which kept Fort Collins attack off balance most of the night.”

Tough serves, indeed.

The SaberCats’ Camille Betance and Bridgette Lococo had three aces apiece. Lococo also had eight kills.

Katelyn Schwartz and Sarah Dannettell both had 13 assists with Schwartz adding six kills.

Fossil Ridge will play Greeley West on Thursday, with the winner taking sole possession of first place in the FRL. Fort Collins (9-3, 2-2) will host Loveland.
