Nearly 100 runners from Section 4 will take to Elma Meadows Golf Course today for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Cross Country meet.
Highlighting the list are Section 4 individual winners Dan Dracup from Ithaca and Abbie Bideaux from Binghamton in Class A, Cody Brizzolara from Maine-Endwell and Natalie Gates from Vestal in Class B, Tyler Sutherland from Trumansburg and Maddie Zeitz from Windsor in Class C, and Michael May from Southern Cayuga and Julia Russell from Candor in Class D.
Joining Brizzolara are his M-E teammates Jesse Brenon, Bryant Hatala, Nick Most, Anthony Ngyuen, Nate Smith and Anthony Taylor who won the Class B Section IV championship.
Also competing as complete teams from Section 4 are the boys teams from Corning, Trumansburg, and Southern Cayuga.
Several other Section 4 runners will be competing as individuals, including: Parrish Bridges, James Felize, and Patrick Sargent from Owego; Vestal’s Dana Carris and Brian Jennings; Susquehanna Valley’s Richard Buchanan and Alex Whitney; and Jack Hillenbrand from Harpursville.
Joining Gates are her Vestal teammates Shayna Gray, Clare and Kelly Maloney, Emily Menierney, Sawako Sazuki and Sarevah Shafer.
Also advancing from the Section 4 championships as full girls teams are Elmira, Newark Valley and Candor.
Other Section 4 individuals on the girls side include: Emily Cluck from Johnson City, Krista Kicsak and Larissa Plaskon from Maine-Endwell; Erin Gunther and Dierdre Nolis from Owego; Natalie Hawkes from Chenango Valley; Katie Markstein from Susquehanna Valley; Elizabeth Jewiss from Marathon; and Nicole Blazicek and Jamie Farrell from Seton Catholic Central.
Girls races begin at 9 a.m. with Class B, followed by Classes C, D and A in half-hour intervals. Boys races begin at 11 a.m. with Class B, followed by Classes C, D and A in half-hour intervals.
