The East squad will look for a third consecutive victory and fourth in five years against the West in the Ernie Davis Exceptional Senior Classic, scheduled for 7 p.m. kickoff Wednesday at Union-Endicott’s Ty Cobb Stadium.
The 23rd renewal of the event will bring together many of the finest senior football players from Section 4. Many, that is, but certainly not all.
A group of seven from Maine-Endwell who appear on the East roster will forego the contest as they continue preparations for a second consecutive state title game appearance.
The remaining Section 4 champions are to be represented by a collective nine players, including quarterback Andre Yevchinecz of Binghamton, rushing leader Michael Cheslock of U-E, and the cornerstones of Chenango Forks’ offensive and defensive lines, Jack Barnett and Mike Doll.
Head coach of the East will be Tim Petras of Harpursville’s first-time playoff participants, and Lou Condon from Watkins Glen will pilot the West.
Last November, the East erased two first-half deficits and then did not permit a first down in the second half to secure a 21-13 win.
