Waupun High School scored with less than 3 minutes remaining on Tuesday to beat New Holstein, 1-0, in an Eastern Wisconsin Conference boys soccer game.
The Warriors had a throw-in, which was gathered by Jason Roeker who sent the ball to Dakota Payne. Payne fired it by the New Holstein keeper for the deciding goal.
“We were already short-handed due to injuries, and the heat really took its toll on us,” said New Holstein coach Nate Laabs. “They had the better of the play in the first half, but the second half was very even.”
New Holstein goes to 4-6 overall, 1-4 in the EWC.
Jack Heginbottom scored the hat trick to beat visiting Campbellsport.
Heginbottom scored in the 4th minute, the 17th minute and 73rd minute for the Panthers.
Campbellsport coach Geoffrey Baumann credited goalkeeper Dakota Best, Jack Adams and Tyler Coleman as standing out for the Cougars.
“We played well at times, but ultimately some defensive mistakes cost us, and you can’t do that against a team as good as them,” said Campbellsport coach Geoffrey Baumann.
Campbellsport goes to 4-8 overall, 2-3 in the EWC.
