Nickie Blue signs on with South Carolina.
She’s the first major division 1 softball recruit for Niwot in 10 years.
“It means the world to me to have this opportunity and to say it’s actually going to happen, it’s great,” Blue told 9News.
Despite gaudy career numbers at Niwot, like 658 strike outs to just 61 walks, or a career ERA well under 1.00, Blue never thought of herself as a DI athlete.
“I like to think if myself as a humble person. So I don’t necessarily buy in to my athletic ability,” said Blue.
Not to worry, Nickie’s coach has no problem talking her up.
“She’s the best player in the state. Probably one of the best in the country,” said Bobby Matthews with confidence. “Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, they missed out. And they’re going to pay for it.”
It’s starting to sink in for the 6’1” pitcher.
“The fact that I am going to South Carolina, and the fact that they are a D1 school and the fact that they are in the SEC, I realize they want me for a reason,” said Blue.
She is finally starting to feel like a big-time recruit.
And that’s a good thing, because her college career starts in a few months.
“I think I’ll start playing in the role of I am a division one athlete and I should start acting like it,” said Blue.
