THE WINNER: Sydney Moseley
School: Hillcrest (Simpsonville, S.C.)
Athletic achievement: She led the Rams (54-3) to a second consecutive Class AAAA state championship this past season. A Class AAAA First Team All-State selection as named by the South Carolina Coaches Association for Women's Sports, Moseley amassed 403 digs, 351 kills, 72 assists, 62 service aces and 40 blocks. She recorded 14 kills in a 3-1 state title victory against Aiken (S.C.).
Academic excellence: Moseley has maintained a 5.23 weighted GPA in the classroom and ranks No. 1 in her graduating class.
Exemplary character: A member of the National Honor Society and her school’s Beta Club chapter, she has volunteered on behalf of Youth Leadership Greenville, the Fountain Inn Rotary Club, Greenville Hospital and March of Dimes. Moseley has also donated her time as a youth volleyball and swimming instructor.
“Sydney Moseley is effective in several different positions for several different reasons,” said Alexis Glover, head coach of rival Wando (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.). “At setter, she can run the offense as the quarterback of the team. On the outside, she is a six-position passer and hitter, playing right or left as an outstanding hitter and defender — blocking and digging. She’s a smart, savvy player who reads the defense and knows where to put the ball. She controls the pace of the game and is a very disciplined player. She is the main force behind the success of Hillcrest the last two years. She makes the difference.”
THE FUTURE: Moseley remains undecided upon a collegiate destination.
