The Space Coast Jr./Sr. High football team is hoping they have things on the right track after an impressive victory Friday night.
The Vipers scored their first win of the season, defeating Montverde 45-17. But more than just a win, head coach Jake Owens saw a team that is coming together.
“We had an adjustment period, but we are starting to be able to move the ball,” said Owens, who also got his first varsity win as a coach.
“Guys have stepped in and taken charge of the offense.”
And it starts with Nick Rittenhouse, the do-it-all leader of the team. On Friday, Rittenhouse threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. He also had a 27-yard field goal in the game.
“Nick is just a general on the field,” Owens said. “He gets them in the right place on the field.”
But it is not just Rittenhouse. Brenton Crouch has stepped up at running back and Kyle Yancey has been big on both offense and defense.
“We are getting there, we are a young team,” Owens said.
“We have a bright future. We feel like we are getting into a mode where we can compete in the district.”
And they will need that confidence with a short week ahead. The Vipers will host Titusville on Thursday night in a district matchup. Game time is 7.
