The St. Mary’s Springs boys basketball team ran circles around Oshkosh Lourdes in the second quarter of Saturday night’s nonconference game in Oshkosh, and that was enough for the Ledgers to earn a 60-54 victory.
Lourdes jumped out to a nice lead against their former Fox Valley Christian Conference foes, and although they maintained a six-point advantage after one period, three straight buckets late in the first by center Ben Land turned the momentum in Springs’ favor.
“Then the second quarter we dictated the pace of the game, sped them up and made them uncomfortable,” Springs coach Kyle Krueger said. “Forced them into turnovers and some bad shots.”
Darin Ward scored 20 points to lead Springs (6-0), ranked ninth in Division 4. He hit three 3-pointers in the third quarter to help the visitors stay in front.
“Down the stretch we did a nice job at the (free-throw) line,” Krueger said. “We were 7-for-10 in the fourth quarter when they were making a move on us.”
