The St. Mary’s Springs volleyball team beat in-town rival Winnebago Lutheran 25-10, 25-18, 25-20 on Senior Night Thursday at Hutter Gymnasium.

Eleanore Mueller spiked nine kills past the WLA defense, with Julia Moul setting up 23 points with assists.

Carly Meyer had five aces and Kelli Schrauth blocked four shots for Springs, which improves to 5-1 in the Flyway.

“It was great for the team to go out and get a win for the seniors (Sammy Grebe, Meyer, Brianne Lisowe),” said Springs coach Mark Harasha.

Sarah Kell had six kills and Sammi Kraus had 13 assists for the Vikings. Cassie Krueger did the defensive work with six digs.

Neenah 3, Fondy 0

Fondy struggled against FVA leading Neenah falling 25-10, 25-16, 25-9.

The offense was sparse with Jenna Rosenthal leading with six kills and Sadie Warner and Brianna Wagner both registering five kills. Warner and Jenny Smith served two aces apiece, and Smit had a team-high six assists.

Fondy coach Kevin Santry said the Rockets simply don’t have a weakness.

“They’re a complete team. They receive the ball well, their ball control is strong, they have multiple options at any given time on the front row,” Santry said. “They seem to be clicking right now.”

Fondy hosts Appleton West next Thursday as it gets ready for the WIAA tournament.

Markesan 3

Valley Christian 0

The Hornets won 25-9, 25-8 and 25-19 to complete the road sweep.

McKenna Simons had 20 kills for the Markesan lead. Brianna Koopman had 26 assists and three aces. Brianna Laper led the team in digs with six.

C’sport 3, New Holstein 0

The visiting Cougars swept New Holstein 25-11, 25-21, 25-20 in an EWC match.

Kaity Murphy led the Cougars with 14 kills. Paige Birschbach had 28 assists and Theresa Flood led the defensive charge with 13 digs.

For the Huskies, Tori Zipperer had 10 digs, Tara Zipperer led the team with six kills and Hailee Olson contributed 11 assists and nine digs.

Laconia 3, North Fondy 2

The Spartans won 25-10, 25-14, 18-25, 28-30 and 15-9 in North Fond du Lac.

Alex Wagner had 14 kills to pace the Spartans, while Morgan Gunnink added 12. Cassie Isaac had 12 digs for Laconia and three aces.

Amanda Leichtfuss blocked seven hits, and Haley Smith had 30 assists. The Spartans go to 17-9 and 5-1 in the Flyway.

Nicole Seidl had 23 kills, Hannah Nelson had 35 assists and Breanna Kelly finished with 15 digs.

Mayville 3, Lomira 0

The Cardinals won 28-26, 25-14 and 25-11 in Lomira.

Paige Bartelt had nine kills to lead the Lions, while Kiersten Zangl added seven.

Brittany Soboleski and Zoe Schulz had five digs each.

Abbey Weinke had four blocks for the Lions (3-25, 0-5).

Boys volleyball

Fondy 3, Neenah 1

Fondy won on the road 25-17, 25-16, 18-25 and 25-18.

“It was a nice win,” said Fondy coach Royal Smit. “By far I thought it was Mackenzie Nick’s best game. He came through hitting smart and getting points instead of trying to overpower it all the time.”

Fondy goes to 5-2 in conference duals.

Nick led Fondy’s offense with 15 kills, and Collin Pickart added 14.

Logan Wendt had 32 assists for Fondy, and Pickart also led the defense with 15 digs. Charlie Andrew contributed 13.

Smit said he juggled the line-up a little in the third set and took the blame for that loss.

“It was nice how we responded and came back to take the fourth game,” Smit said. “It was a game the guys felt we should win and they went out and got the win.”

Waupun 3, Sheboygan Falls 0

The Warriors won 25-15, 25-21, 25-15 on Senior Night in Waupun.
Kelsey Thompson led Waupun with eight kills, while Blake Buchholz had seven kills and a team-high seven digs and Kyra Verheyen had 22 assists.
Seniors Emilee Wiersma had six kills and three blocks, and Vanessa Jaeger served five aces. Waupun coach Keith Milkowski said the team’s other two seniors – Kenzie Winning and Brooke Kavonius contributed to the victory.
