Too many turnovers and a weather delay made for one long, dreary night for the Out-of-Door Academy Thunder.
The hosts turned the ball over seven times and fell in a key district game. It was simply too many turnovers against a team capable of scoring off big plays.
The Celtics never scored a touchdown of fewer than 30 yards, scoring on plays of 50, 58, 91, 34, 30 and 53 yards.
The game was delayed by lightning for about 55 minutes. Much of the second half was played in a relatively light rain.
ODA fell to 1-3 overall, and 1-2 in Class 2A-District 6. The Celtics are 4-0, 3-0 in district play.
ODA’s penchant for allowing big plays showed up in the first quarter. The Celtics’ first TD was a pass that covered 50 yards. They added a TD run of 58 yards and a punt return for a touchdown that covered 91 yards for a 21-0 lead after the first quarter.
