State golf roundup: Becker's Williams takes second in girls tournament

JORDAN – Becker senior Kourtney Williams shot a 72 Wednesday to finish second and Rocori freshman Marja Sorenson shot a 79 to take ninth on the final day of the Class 2A state girls golf tournament at The Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course.

Williams was tied for fourth after shooting a 77 on Tuesday. She finished nine strokes behind Detroit Lakes eighth-grader Kate Smith, who shot 70 on both days, to win the state title. Sorenson shot a 160 for the two days.

Detroit Lakes won the team title with 619 strokes. St. Cloud Cathedral was fifth with 722.

Junior Lucy Gaetz tied for 26th (86-86-172), junior Erin Stocker tied for 36th (88-89-177), senior Kelsey Osendorf tied for 56th (102-87-189), junior Greta Egerman tied for 58th (95-95-190), eighth-grader Ann Berdan tied for 61st (98-93-191) and eighth-grader Lauren Herker tied for 72nd (98-101-199) for the Crusaders.

Class 3A girls

COON RAPIDS – St. Cloud Apollo freshman Nikki Torgerson shot an 84 to give her a two-day total of 173 and a tie for 29th place at Bunker Hills Golf Course. Cretin-Derham Hall sophomore Celia Kuenster shot a 79 to give her a two-day total of 141 and the state title.

New Prague won the state team title with a two day total of 661.

St. Cloud Tech senior Meagan Larkin tied for 37th (91-84-175) and Tigers senior Bobbie Bohlig tied for 45th (92-85-177).

Class A girls

BECKER – Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa freshman Peyton Miller shot a 39 on the back nine on Wednesday to finish the day with an 84 and a two-day total of 176 strokes to tie for 14th at Pebble Creek Golf Course.

B-B-E junior Jordan Geundmann shot a 96 for a two-day total of 204 and took 59th.

Legacy Christian Academy senior Rachel Gray shot a 79 for the day and 161 for the tournament to win the state title. Lewiston-Altura won the team state title with a 709.

Class 2A boys

JORDAN – Melrose junior Wesley Dickhaus shot a 79 for a two-day total of 155 to tie for 26th at The Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course. Hermantown senior Taylor Sundbom shot a 69 on the second day for a two-day total of 142 to win the state title.

Detroit Lakes won the team title with 601 strokes.

Sauk Centre senior Robby Polipnick tied for 47th (80-80-160), Becker senior Zach Johanns (79-83-162) and St. Cloud Cathedral senior Garret McCormick (84-78-162) tied for 54th) and Albany junior Jordan LeClair finished 77th (86-86-172).
