Riverdale’s Scottie Boykin and Blackman’s Legrand Sommers each were within one match of bringing home gold from the TSSAA Division I Individual State Wrestling Championships in 2012.

And it is Boykin and Sommers that lead the 2012 DNJ All-Area Wrestling Team.

Boykin fell 9-4 to two-time state champion Cody Davis of Pigeon Forge in the 190-pound weight class championship match. Sommers fell 7-0 to Jacob Stevens of Soddy-Daisy in the 120-pound class.

Both Boykin and Sommers had outstanding seasons. Boykin finished 42-2. His only loss in the 190-pound class was to Davis. Meanwhile, Sommers finished 42-7 and wrestled with a knee injury late in the season.

They are joined on the all-area team with two other wrestlers that placed at the state tournament level. In fact 13 of the 14 wrestlers on the first team were state qualifiers.

Blackman 113-pounder Alec Myers placed sixth at state as did Eagleville 160-pounder Blake Solomon.

Blackman, which also won the Region 5-AAA tournament to reach the Class AAA state duals, also has 138-pounder Tyler Garrison, 145-pounder Tyler Sells, 170-pounder Jevon Brown, 220-pounder Billy Woodard and 285-pounder Austin Wells on the team

Eagleville placed 106-pounder Casey Dodson and 152-pounder Sam Underwood on the team. Siegel placed 132-pounder Blake Grant and 182-pounder Deionte Ewing on the team. And La Vergne’s Rowell Arcibal is on the team.
