For the second consecutive week, a Top 10 team in the Super 25 went down. Moeller (Cincinnati), which opened the season in the Super 25, knocked off No. 9 Colerain (Cincinnati), 24-21, in the Division I, Region 4 Championship.
The loss sent the Cardinals tumbling out of the rankings and allowed Hoover (Ala.), 49-26 winners against Pell City (Ala.), to move up to No. 9. The eight teams in front of Colerain all won, though there was some reshuffling. Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.), John Curtis (River Ridge, La.), DeSoto (Texas) and Bellevue (Wash.) held steady at Nos. 1-4, while Katy (Texas), fresh off a 77-7 win over Westbury (Houston), jumped from No. 7 to No. 5.
The Tigers are followed by No. 6 Butler (Matthews, N.C.), which defeated East Forsyth (Kennersville, N.C.) 25-15, No. 7 De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) and No. 8 Vista Murrieta (Murrieta, Calif.). Mentor (Ohio) made the biggest jump in this week's rankings; the Cardinals (12-1) went from being unranked to No. 10 after its 57-56 triple-overtime win over St. Ignatius (Cleveland). Mentor lost to St. Ignatius, 48-21, during the regular season.
Goose Creek, which had its disqualification from the playoffs upheld by the South Carolina High School League by a vote of 12-2 today, was dropped from the rankings. Then-No. 19 Picayune (Miss.) and then-No. 23 Lassiter (Marrietta, Ga.) also dropped from the rankings after upset losses. Gilman (Baltimore), Cass Tech (Detroit) and Don Bosco (Ramsey, N.J.) enter the rankings at Nos. 23, 24 and 25, respectively.
