Tilghman's five TDs lift Saints over Friends


ALAPOCAS – Austin Tilghman rushed for 208 yards and five touchdowns on 34 carries as St. Andrew’s outscored Wilmington Friends 34-27 on Saturday afternoon in an Independent Conference shootout.

Tilghman scored on runs of 12, 48, 23, 8 and 10 yards, with his final touchdown putting the Saints ahead 34-20 in the fourth quarter. The Quakers made it 34-27 on Sam Carney’s 37-yard touchdown pass to Ben Hanson, but the Saints were able to hold the ball for the final 5:12 to nail down the win.

Sterling Cousar added 66 rushing yards for the Saints. Luke Magness led the Quakers with with 98 yards rushing while Sam Carney went 12 for 27 for 189 yards and fired two touchdown passes to Hanson.

Academy Park (Pa.) 22, Archmere 10CLAYMONT – Archmere took an early lead only to see Academy Park (Pa.) rally to victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Auks jumped out to a 7-0 advantage on Brian Rogers’ 26-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Reardon in the second quarter. But Brian Street’s two touchdown passes staked Academy Park to a 15-7 halftime lead.

Samuel Mattern’s 23-yard field goal got the Auks within five points at 15-10 in the third quarter, but Hakim Whitaker ran back the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a score to provide Academy Park with its final margin. Rogers went 14 for 28 for 157 yards on the day.

Tower Hill 21, Tatnall 13GREENVILLE – Will Mette ran for 74 yards and two touchdowns as Tower Hill held off Tatnall in an Independent Conference tilt.

Mette scored on runs of 5 and 1 yards, with his second touchdown giving the Hillers a 21-7 lead in the fourth quarter. But Donovan May scored his second touchdown of the game on a 40-yard pass from Joe Cooper to make it 20-13 with 3:56 left. The Hornets had two more possessions, but lost the ball on downs once and lost it again when Jermaine Knotts intercepted a pass to clinch the victory.

St. Georges 45, Christiana 14CHRISTIANA – Vaughn Simmons-Williams scored three touchdowns to lead St. Georges over Christiana in a Blue Hen Flight B game.

All of Simmons-Willliams’ touchdowns came during a 29-point second-quarter explosion that put the Hawks ahead 37-6 at halftime. He caught touchdown passes of 68 and 33 yards from quarterback Zach Wright and also scored on a 10-yard run. Simmons-Williams rushed for 73 yards on the day.

Mount Pleasant 22, Dickinson 6PENNY HILL – Tavio Cone ran for 119 yards and a touchdown as Mount Pleasant downed Dickinson in a Blue Hen Flight B game.

Cone ran 20 yards for a touchdown to complete a 19-point first quarter outburst by the Green Knights. Quarterback Lonnie Williams, who passed for 145 yards, threw touchdown passes of 11 yards to Shaquille Mills and 43 yards to Beau Owens earlier in the quarter.

Tyler Malloy booted a 36-yard field goal in the second quarter to complete the Mount Pleasant scoring. Atiba Mayfield scored on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter for Dickinson.

McKean 23, Brandywine 16BRANDYWINE HUNDRED – Imani Jones had four catches for 96 yards and a touchdown and added an interception return for a score as the Highlanders took a Blue Hen Flight B tilt against the Bulldogs. Quarterback Darius Jones had 20 carries for 120 yards for McKean, and Hasaan Boyer came through on special teams with 80-yard kick return for a touchdown.

Concord 52, Delcastle 29BRANDYWINE HUNDRED – Senior fullback Grant Roberts rushed for three touchdowns as Concord defeated Delcastle in a Blue Hen Flight A matchup and evened its record on the season. Tyler Pini was 5 for 8 for 187 yards and a touchdown as the Raiders opened up a 32-7 halftime lead. Ahmere Dorsey threw three TD passes for Delcastle.
