Tobey leads Patriots to shutout win over Braves

The Freehold Township field hockey team continued its dominance on Friday afternoon with a 7-0 victory against Manalapan in a Class A North game.

Junior Lindsay Tobey led the Patriots powerful offense in scoring with two goals and two assists. Senior Sydney Weise scored two goals, and had one assist. Heather Delguercio scored one goal and had one assist. Junior Breinne O’Donoughue and senior Briana Williams each added a goal. Rachel Lodi chipped in an assist in the win.

Goalie Marissa Lerner made nine saves in the net for the Braves, and Lori Brennan made one save for the Patriots.

The Patriots improved their record to (11-0, 8-0) to extend their lead in the division, and the Braves fell to (3-8-1, 1-7).

RUMSON-FH 4, RARITAN 0: Mary Kate Dengler scored two goals to lead the Bulldogs (10-1, 9-0) over the Rockets (2-8-1, 2-9-1) in a Class A Central game. Emma Fitzgerald and Madison Maguire each finished with two assists.

Raritan’s goalie Tara Dejoy made 13 saves.

FREEHOLD 4, LONG BRANCH 1: Alicia Theoret scored two goals in a row in the second half to lead the Colonials (11-1, 9-0) past the Green Wave (8-4-1, 3-4-1) in a Class B North game.

Jacinta Santos scored the only goal for the Green Wave in the opening minutes of the first half, but the Colonials responded with four unanswered goals for the victory.

IN BOYS SOCCER

TR EAST 3, TR SOUTH 1: Josh Sommerer had one goal and one assist leading the Raiders (7-2-2) over the Indians (6-6, 5-5) in a Class A South game. Sommerer scored in the 21st minute off an assist from Nolan Gottshall. Benji Osei scored the only goal of the game for the Indians in the 31st minute.

MIDD. SOUTH 4, MARLBORO 1: Mike Lino scored the opening goal of the game for the Eagles (6-4-1) leading them past the Mustangs (2-6-3) in a Class A North game. James Merges also had one goal and one assist for the Eagles.

Dave Nigro scored the only goal of the game for the Mustangs on a awarded PK in the 80th minute.

IN GIRLS SOCCER

WALL 2, MANALAPAN 1: Abby Musto scored the game winning goal in the first period of overtime leading the Crimson Knights (11-1) over the Braves (6-2-2) in a nondivisional game.

Musto scored in the 86th minute off an assist from Alex Couto. Couto also tied the game up in the 49th minute with a goal of her own.

TR EAST 2, TR SOUTH 0: Emma Sinanan scored both goals of the game for the Raiders leading them over the Indians (4-6) in a Class A South game. Sinanan scored her first goal off a cross from Amanda Bruno into the lower left corner of the goal.
