St. Cloud Cathedral is on the cusp of Granite Ridge Conference championships in both boys and girls soccer.
The Crusaders can make strong steps toward those titles in a doubleheader Thursday against St. John’s Prep in Collegeville.
Cathedral’s boys are 5-0 in the Granite Ridge, 9-0-2 overall and not only headed to a conference championship, but a possible top seed in the South Sub-Section 8A playoffs.
St. John’s Prep is 3-2 in the conference, 8-5 overall and hoping to avenge a 2-0 loss to the Crusaders on Sept. 18 in St. Cloud.
Cathedral’s girls are 7-0-1 in the Granite Ridge and 9-2-1 overall. The Crusaders are tied with Princeton (7-0-1, 9-2-2) for the conference lead and need a win over St. John’s Prep (5-3, 9-5). They beat the Johnnies in the first meeting, 5-1 Sept. 18 in St. Cloud.
The girls game features the conference’s top offense, St. John’s Prep, against the Granite Ridge’s top defense, Cathedral.
The Johnnies, led by scoring machine Clare Culligan, average 4.6 goals per game. Culligan is one of the greatest goal scorers in Minnesota history.
Cathedral, led by junior goalkeeper Mo Schroeder, allows 0.8 goals per game.
The boys’ game starts at 3 p.m., with the girls’ game scheduled for 5 p.m.
Expect some intense soccer.
