Top-ranked Ankeny advanced to the state tournament for the 25th time in school history with a 1-0 victory over Fort Dodge in a Class 5-A regional final on Tuesday at Ankeny.
Shayla Starkenburg tossed a four-hitter and had 12 strikeouts for the Hawkettes (36-6), improving her record to 28-0. Fort Dodge (20-21) was denied a return trip to the state tournament.
Emilee Dorpinghaus scored the only run in the third inning. She drew a two-out walk from Mallory Kilian, advanced to second on a walk to Aly Cappaert and then raced home on an infield single by Ashlie Chambers.
Chambers and Kendyl Lindaman each had two hits for Ankeny.

Jessica Grochala drove in five runs and Jamie Reynolds went 4-for-4 with four runs scored East’s regional final victory over Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln.

ATLANTIC, Ia. – Junior Karly Olson struck out 16 and hit the game-winning home run in the fourth inning to lead Winterset to state.
Carlisle 6, Keokuk 1
OSKALOOSA, Ia. – Kenzie Flaws struck out five and allowed three hits for Carlisle, which was led on offense by Taylor Davis’ double and three RBIs. Carlisle qualified for its fifth straight state tournament.
Indianola 2, Creston 1
INDIANOLA, Ia. – Bri Chaplain had a single up the middle to drive in Taylor Barnett for the winning run for Indianola in the top of the seventh.
