The top-ranked City High volleyball team swept Dubuque Senior 3-0 Tuesday at City High, winning 25-16, 25-15, 25-21.

“It was one of those matches, you can go down on paper and say we were supposed to win,” City coach Craig Pitcher said. “I thought we served really well, (but) we weren’t totally in synch tonight.”

The Little Hawks had 13 ace serves as a team.

Abby Saehler had 10 kills for City, Aliyah Gustafson had eight kills, Michaela Nelson had 10 kills, three aces and 13 digs, Ruth Grace had 38 assists, Mickey Hansche had four aces and 12 digs, and Liz Hubing had 14 digs.

City is 20-4 overall and 3-0 in the Mississippi Valley Conference.

* DUBUQUE HEMPSTEAD 3, WEST HIGH 1: The Women of Troy started strong, but faded in a 21-25, 25-19, 25-8, 25-15 loss to the second-ranked Mustangs in Dubuque.

“We were content to let Hempstead dictate the tempo,” West coach Kathy Bresnahan said. “We didn’t respond to adversity.”

Lizzie Klemme had 12 digs and 17 assists for West, Toni Martin had 10 kills, and Laynie Whitehead had eight kills and 14 assists.

West is 13-9 overall and 4-1 in the MVC.

* SOLON 3, ANAMOSA 0: The Class 4A seventh-ranked Spartans made quick work of the Blue Raiders in Anamosa, winning 25-12, 25-7, 25-12.

Jordan Runge had 11 kills for Solon, and Lepa Luavai had 12 assists.

Solon is 17-3 overall and 5-0 in the WaMaC.

* WAPELLO 3, LONE TREE 0: The Lions fell 25-20, 25-19, 25-15 in Lone Tree.

Madeyln Flemr had 11 kills, and Karley Hester had 18 assists.

Lone Tree is 5-12 overall and 2-3 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference.

* IMS 3, LOUISA-MUSCATINE 0: Iowa Mennonite School won 25-22, 25-12, 25-11 in Kalona.
