It may not have been the way first-year quarterback Brett Kasper wanted to start the first game of his senior year for Two Rivers, but the way he finished it may have made up for it as the Raiders cruised to a 34-6 home win over Kettle Morraine Lutheran on Friday night.
On the first play from scrimmage with just seconds gone by in the first quarter Kasper botched the snap and just like that the Raiders faced a second-and-20 situation.
One snap later, though, Kasper found himself in the end zone celebrating an 81-yard touchdown strike to sophomore Ethan Willman to put the Raiders up 6-0 after two plays to ease the minds of any second-guessers.
It was the start of quite the first half for Kasper, who threw two more touchdowns – a 61-yarder to Dexter Smith and a 6-yarder to Willmann – while also going 16-of-22 for 230 yards and sending Two Rivers into halftime up 21-0.
In the second half Kasper continued to dominate the Kettle Morraine defense, only this time on the ground instead of the air. In the third quarter Kasper had touchdown runs of 23 yards and eight yards to put the game out of reach and make it 34-0 at the end of three.
Kasper finished the game with 10 rushing attempts for 29 yards. But the biggest impact Kasper had was through the air, where he finished off the game by going 29-of-43 for 346 yards and the three touchdowns. Kasper, who had one interception early in the first half, also had one late in the second half on a desperation play as the Raiders attempted to get one final score before the end of the second quarter.
Defensively the Raiders fed off of Kasper and the rest of the offense’s performance as the first Kettle Morraine Lutheran first down came with nine minutes left in the first half. Lutheran’s only score came with less than a minute remaining in the game.
The score by quarter, as well as other Two Rivers stats, were not submitted to the Herald Times Reporter as of press deadline.
