Unveiling the Preseason Super 25 Girls' Rankings: 25-16


We rolled out the preseason Super 25 boys' basketball rankings last week. Now it's the girls' turn. Today we'll unveil teams 25-6; tomorrow we'll unveil the Top 5. Until then, make your case for No. 1 team by tweeting @USATODAYhss.

25. Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) (27-7)

The Huskies have the players to return to the 5A state finals, led by Aliyah Dickson and Kyndall Adams, who has signed with Idaho State.

24. Dutch Fork (Irmo, S.C.) (27-3)

The Silver Foxes won the 4A title handily last season and return senior 6-4 C Alaina Coates (18.3 ppg, 10.4 rpg and 3.5 bpg), a South Carolina signee, senior G Rose Robinson and talented sophomore G Zhane Green.

23. Hoover (Ala.) (31-3)

The Bucs won the 6A state title last season and return three future SEC players: 6-0 F Marqu'es Webb, who has signed with Vanderbilt; and 5-9 PG Courtney Hunter and 6-0 F Kara Rawls, who have signed with Alabama. Also PG Breigha Cochran, who gives the team a lift with her defense, has signed with South Alabama.

22. Myers Park (Charlotte) (31-1)

The Mustangs have four starters back, led by senior F India Timpton, junior G  Saadia Timpton and sophomore G Aliyah Mazyck. They also have a new coach in former Wingate University coach Barbara Nelson.

21. Ossining (N.Y.) (23-1)

Led by Connecticut signee Saniya Chong (33.3 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 9.7 apg, 5.0 spg), the Pride have 10 returning seniors from a team that reached the state AA Final Four.

20. Hamilton Southeastern (Fishers, Ind.) (20-1)

Preseason American Family Insurance ALL-USA selection 6-3 C Taya Reimer (19.4 ppg, 9.6 rpg and 2.3 bpg) has signed with Notre Dame and leads a strong group that includes 6-2 senior F Jessica Pongonis (10.6 ppg, 5.4), junior G Lindsay Walton and her sister, freshman G Megan Walton.

19. Fairmont (Kettering, Ohio) (24-4)

The two-time state Div. I runner-ups are ready to break out this year, with every player returning. The Firebirds are led by 6-2 junior F Kathryn Westbeld, senior PG Chelsea Welch and junior 6-2 C Makayla Waterman. Schedule includes Bolingbrook, Ill., Regis Jesuit (Aurora, Colo.) and defending Div. III state champion Africentric (Columbus).

18. Springfield (Ore.) (26-3)

The Millers have won back-to-back 5A state titles and return 6-5 C Mercedes Russell (26 ppg, 15 rpg, 5 apg, 6 bpg), a preseason American Family Insurance ALL-USA selection.

17. Archbishop Wood (Warminster, Pa.) (20-10)

Three-time defending state AAA champions return senior point guard Jackie Pierson, senior G Colleen Young, junior 5-7 G Jess Kaminski and sophomore PF Aubree Brown. Schedule includes Tournament of Champions in Phoenix and Christ the King (Middle Village, N.Y.).

16. Hopkins (Minn.) (30-1)

Two-time defending 4A champions have three Div. I signees is G Nia Coffey (15.6 ppg), who is headed to Northwestern next year, North Dakota signee Erin O'Toole and G Mikaala Shackelford, who has signed with Illinois.
