Sheree Wilichowski collected 20 kills and Taylor Literski chipped in 14 kills and added seven aces, as the UW-Marathon County women’s volleyball team downed the defending Wisconsin Collegiate Conference champion UW-Barron County 18-25, 27-25, 25-22, 25-18 on Wednesday .

Katey Noland added 18 assists and five service aces asthe Huskies, who improved to 4-1 overall.

“It was a struggle for the first half of the match, but as we started to make adjustments we were able to turn the momentum a bit,” Huskies coach Matt Greenberg said. “UW-Barron always plays us very well and does a great job exposing things that we need to work on. I give them a lot of credit. Fortunately, we’ve got a day to work on some things before (UW-) Marshfield comes to town on Friday.”

CROSS COUNTRY

Holly Solomon finished in fifth place overall and led the D.C. Everest girls cross country team to a second place finish on Tuesday in the D.C. Everest Invitational at Nine Mile Forest.

All five of the Evergreens scorers placed in the top-20, with Emilee Mytinger taking 14th place overall. Solomon finished the 5k race in 20 minutes, 36 seconds.

On the boys side, the Evergreens took third place. Top finisher was Ben Dietel in 17th place.

Wittenberg-Birnamood’s boys team finished seventh led by Eric Tomson (23rd), while the Chargers girls squad was eighth , paced by Megan School (16th).

Grace Larrain, Carly Maves, and Treva Etten all earned victories, as the Cardinals picked up a dual win over the Lumberjacks.

Newman’s No. 2 doubles pairing of Abby Connolly and Toni Rufledt won the Cardinals lone doubles match.

For East, Anna Bauman netted its only singles victory, while the No. 1 doubles team of Mallory Wanserski and Caroline Krolicki earned a win as well.

Newman’s No. 2 and No. 3 tandems of Abby Connolly-Toni Rufledt and Lauren LaPree-Maddie Luetmer, respectively, picked up wins.
