VENICE — Venice High’s Terry Polk rushed for 208 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Indians to a 35-14 homecoming win over Lehigh on Friday night.
The Lightning (1-4) had trouble moving the ball all night, and fell into a 14-0 first-quarter hole when Venice (3-1) scored on its first two possessions. Bobby Hart got the Lightning back into the game with an 86-yard kickoff return, and the Lightning threatened again in the second quarter with a first and goal on the Venice 10. But two penalties later, the Lightning were facing a fourth and 46, and didn’t threaten again until Davonte White and David Dezeme teamed up on a 27-yard TD pass with 4:39 to go in the game.
“We fought in the first half,” said Lehigh coach Nate Sund. “It’s 21-7 and we’re driving. We get to first and goal and it ends up fourth and 46. That’s tough to convert .
That kind of stuff hurt us. We’ve got some kids that re going to scrap till the very end and some kids that aren’t quite there yet. We’ve got a week to figure it out.”
