Valhalla’s Alyssa Lombardo was named MVP after leading the Vikings to a 25-20 win over Blind Brook Saturday in the championship match of the 11th annual Briarcliff Booster Club Tournament.
Edgemont’s Lolly Sanchez, Sacred Heart’s Emily Casey, Briarcliff’s Samantha Friedberg, Blind Brook’s Katelyn Kim and Lindsay Kim, and the Vikings’ Kelli Whitman and Alyssa Coluntuno were all named to the all-tournament team.
Carroll stars at South tournament: Clarkstown South’s Taylor Carroll was named MVP of the Alex Valow Memorial tournament, hosted by the Vikings. The 24-team tournament started in 1994 and was named in 2009 after Valow, a former official and professional player from the area.
Joining Carroll on the all-tournament team from the area was her twin sister, Kianna Carroll, Pelham’s Rachel Courtien and Panas’ Brigitte Burcescu. Old Tappan topped defending champ Demarest, 25-22, for its third tournament title and first since 2008.
North Salem 3, Somers 2: At North Salem, Emma Allen and Sam Floer each had 14 kills in a 23-25, 23-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-14 win. Gwen Gumbs added five kills. Jenna Arturi had 11 kills for Somers.
Tappan Zee 3, Harrison 1: At Harrison, Meghan Smith had nine kills in a 25-20, 25-13, 21-25, 25-22 win. Amanda Carroll added four digs and three kills. Zoe Rheingold had 10 kills and eight digs for the Huskies.
Ossining 3, Westlake 2: At Ossining Friday, Saniya Chong had 19 kills and nine digs in a 25-20, 21-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20 win. Madison Strippoli added 12 blocks and nine kills. Westlake’s Christina Sialiano had 16 kills and four digs.
Hen Hud 3, Fox Lane 0: At Fox Lane Friday, Jessica Pelaccio had six aces, 30 assists and 11 digs in a 25-10, 25-15, 25-11 win. Carlee Corkery contributed 14 kills. Nicole McAlvanah had 19 digs for the Foxes.
Pelham 3, Ursuline 0: At Ursuline Friday, Maddie Curto had four kills and three digs in a 25-18, 25-22, 25-17 win. Teammate Megan Krause had seven kills. Lauren Biolsi had 11 digs and seven kills for Ursuline.
