Volleyball: Campbellsport triumphs in four; Oakfield, Waupun, Fondy boys sweep

After dropping the first set, the Campbellsport High School volleyball team rebounded to take the next three in a 22-25, 27-25, 25-23, 25-15 EWC home win against rival Kewaskum.

Kaity Murphy was efficient in her attack with 18 kills on 36 attempts to lead the Cougars. She also had three blocks.

Paige Birschbach finished with 32 assists, and she played a part in her team’s resolute defense. She led the team with 20 digs, while Theresa Flood (19), Ellysa Schill (11) and Brooke Birschbach (10) also reached double digits in digs.

Oakfield 3 Lomira 0

The Oaks won all three sets by the same score, 26-24.

Paige Bartelt had nine kills for Lomira (3-14).

Gabi Marrese led the team with 16 assists. Rachel Ries had two blocks and Zoe Schulz had three digs.

For the winners, Charlotte Pegram had 10 kills for the team lead. Dana Swanson had nine kills and nine digs.

Katie Schmitz had eight digs and four aces, which led the team for serving.

Howards Grove 3,

Springs 0

Howards Grove won 26-24, 25-17 and 25-16.

Eleanore Mueller led Springs in kills with 10. Molly Krueger had four digs and two aces and Julia Moul had 27 assists.

“With the exception of missed serves I thought we played well,” said Springs coach Mark Harasha.

Waupun 3, Two Rivers 0

Waupun down the Raiders on the road, 25-13, 25-10 and 27-7.

Three players had seven kills for Waupun: Emilee Wiersma, Claiborn Bronkhort and Blake Buchholz.

Shyler Harmsen had five aces for the Warriors, who improved to 13-8 overall and 6-0 in the EWC.

“We were sloppy at times, but we took care of business,” said Waupun coach Keith Milkowski. “We served 19 aces compared to only three misses–that is a great ratio.”

BOYS

Fondy 3, GB West 0

Fondy swept Green Bay West/Southwest 25-15, 25-16, 25-17 to improve to 3-0 in FVA play. The Cardinals have only lost three of the 19 sets they’ve played so far.

“We had a nice rotation,” Fondy coach Royal Smit said. “We got all the players in different roles and they executed. Nice win for everyone on the team.”
