The Waupun High School volleyball team went 4-1 Saturday at its own invite to win the six-team event.
Waupun beat Greendale, 25-18, 27-25; Fond du Lac 25-18, 24-26, 15-10; Regis 25-11, 25-17 and Oakfield 25-14, 25-5 while losing to Sun Prairie 25-18, 25-27, 15-6.
Emilee Wiersma had 42 kills and nine blocks to lead the Warriors (17-9) in both categories.
Blake Buchholz had 31 kills and 31 digs. Kyra Verheyen had 103 assists, and Shyler Harmsen led in aces with 11.
The Fondy boys took sixth out of 12 teams, and the girls were eighth out of 13 on Saturday.
Fondy’s Chris Leisses was runner-up, Nolan Cunningham was 18th and Eric Shoenbach finished 26th.
Megan Buechel placed 10th to lead the girls, and Annie Moore also earned a medal with a 23rd place.
Kris Greening Invite
Waupun’s boys won the event, while the Warrior girls ran for sixth place on Saturday in Ripon.
Andrew Klapper won the boys race for Waupun followed by Bryce Verheyen in third place, Josh Knowlton in ninth and Matt Kuik in 16th.
Hannah Smith led the Warrior girls with a fourth-place finish. Cassie Taylor ran to 34th place and Nicole Crescio came in 35th.
The Cardinals hosted a 12-team invite at which several of the state’s top-ranked teams participated.
Fondy shot a total of 177 for 12th place at Rolling Meadows Golf Club. Homestead won at 22-over-par 310, and Homestead’s Anika Hitt shot 1-over 73 to win medalist honors.
Fondy’s top players were Courtney Kohlmann, who shot 107, and Monica Develice who shot 113.
Mayville went 1-2 at the Berlin Invite.
The Cardinals beat Coulee Christian, 2-0, and lost to Middleton, 3-0, and Poynette/Portage United, 2-0.
Dustin Gering and Eliott Schellpfeffer scored the goals in the win for the Cardinals.
