West Bloomfield football player charged with punching opposing team's coach

A 16-year-old West Bloomfield High School varsity football player accused of punching an opposing team’s coach has been charged with misdemeanor assault and battery.

Authorities said the assault occurred as players were leaving the field after last Friday night’s football game at Stoney Creek High School in Rochester Hills. The teen is accused of punching Harold (Buzz) Zube, who coaches freshman football at Stoney Creek and was assisting at the game.

Prosecutors issued a warrant charging the teen Thursday, according to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. Authorities did not release the teen’s name.

Pamela Zajac, public relations and marketing coordinator for the West Bloomfield School District, said the student, who is a junior, remains suspended as school officials continue to investigate.
