THE WINNER: Ryan Switzer


School: George Washington (Charleston, W.Va.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Running back and cornerback
Height: 5-foot-10
Weight: 175 pounds


Athletic achievement: He rushed for 2,403 yards and 36 touchdowns on 192 carries this past season, leading the Patriots (11-3) to the Class AAA semifinals. The 2011-12 Gatorade West Virginia Football player of the Year, Switzer also caught 20 passes for 253 yards with five touchdowns.

Academic excellence: Switzer has maintained a 3.50 GPA in the classroom.

Exemplary character: A devoted member of his church community, he has volunteered locally on behalf of the Special Olympics and in association with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.


“We wouldn’t be where we are without Ryan Switzer,” said George Washington head coach Steve Edwards. “He’s a true competitor and a leader on and off the field.”

THE FUTURE: Switzer has verbally committed to play football on an athletic scholarship at the University of North Carolina beginning in the fall of 2013.
