Oostburg’s volleyball team moved one round deeper into the WIAA postseason and another round closer to State in its quest to defend its Division 3 state title.

The Flying Dutchmen dispatched with Algoma in a regional semifinal Thursday night, winning in straight sets 25-23, 25-10, 25-12.

Jo-Leigh VerVelde had 15 assists and 14 kills to lead the Dutch, the No. 1 seed and top-ranked team in D3 by the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association.

Maranda Huibregtse had 22 digs, Megan Daane had 13 assists, Maria Huibregtse had 16 digs, Jocelyn Stemper added eight kills and Abby VanStelle had seven kills.

Oostburg hosts No. 4 Kewaunee Saturday.

Howards Grove 3, Random Lake 0

A solid all-around performance led the Tigers to the regional final with a 25-18, 25-13, 25-16 win over the Rams.

Hayley Rickmeier had 19 kills, five blocks and four digs; Autumn Risch had 34 assists; Ali Schueler had eight kills and 14 digs; Nicole Mugan added 15 digs; and Bailey Schaller had nine digs for Howards.

Nicole Paulus had eight assists, nine kills and 14 digs; Jessi Hartwig had 10 assists, four kills and nine digs; and Karli Heimerl had six digs and two blocks to lead Random.

Howards, the No. 2 seed, hosts No. 3 New Holstein Saturday.

New Holstein 3, Fondy Springs 0

The Huskies advanced on the strength of a 25-15, 25-15, 25-11 win.

Tara Zipperer lead the team with 12 kills while Kelly Schmitz had six. Hailee Olson posted 18 assists for the No. 3 seed.

Allieson Mirsberger had seven digs, Tristen Guelig had five aces and Olsol added three aces for New Holstein.

Division 2

Plymouth 3, West De Pere 1

The fourth-seeded Panthers took the first two sets before dropping the third, but rebounded strongly to win the fourth set and advance.

Plymouth won by scores of 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 25-13.

Lux.-Casco 3, Sheb. Falls 0

The Falcons’ season came to a close with a 25-17, 25-23, 25-17 at the hands of the Spartans.

Wrightstown 3, Kiel 0

The Raiders were swept by the second-seeded Tigers, 28-26, 25-21, 25-15.

Division 4

Sheboygan Lutheran 3, Stockbridge 0

The third-seeded Crusaders made short work of their sixth-seeded opponent at home on Thursday.

Sheboygan Lutheran topped Stockbridge in sets of 25-8, 25-14 and 25-17 to advance to a Division 4 regional final on Saturday.

Emily Hammann had 15 kills and three aces for Lutheran. Jenn Johanson added 10 digs and four aces, Danielle Byrum registered 12 assists, and Erynn Sass had eight assists, six digs and three kills for Lutheran.

“I would say we played about as well as we could,” Lutheran coach Stew Krahn said, noting he feels his team is “kind of peaking at the right time.”

Lake County Luth. 3, Sheb. Christian 0

The Eagles’ season ended with a 25-18, 25-18, 25-15 loss to the Lightning.

Division 1

Cedarburg 3, Sheb. South 0

The No. 6 Redwings were upset at home in their playoff opener, 25-14, 25-22, 25-15.

Oshkosh North 3, Sheb. North 0

The Spartans ended the Golden Raiders’ season in three sets, 25-20, 26-24, 25-14.

North finished the year 17-19 overall.
