MURFREESBORO – John Wild has resigned as Riverdale girls basketball coach and accepted a women’s assistant position at Lipscomb University, his college alma mater.

Wild, 46, leaves after three years at Riverdale. He’s been the head coach the past two. He was 68-5 in two seasons at the school and led the Lady Warriors to the finals the past two years. Riverdale was runner-up in 2011 and state champion in 2012. Riverdale finished fifth in the ESPN Hoopgurlz national poll.

Riverdale also won the 2010 championship when Wild was an assistant under Hillary Hodges.

Riverdale finished the season 34-3 with a 23-game win streak. The Lady Warriors didn’t lose a game during the 2012 calendar year.

Wild has amassed a 430-162 record as a head coach. He won a Class A boys state title in 1999 at Moore County and a Class A girls title the following year at Bradford. His 2002 Lawrence County team reached the Class AAA championship game before falling.

This will mark his second stint in the college ranks. He spent a short stint as an assistant at Evansville.
