The Waupun boys cross country team took third place at the Slinger Invite on Thursday with Andrew Klapper taking runner-up honors in the large-school division.
Klapper ran in 16:36 to finish three seconds behind a West Bend West runner. Bryce Verheyen took ninth place in 17:06.
WLA dominated the small school division. Mitchell Bilitz won in 16:09, Eric Bilitz finished second in 16:59, Brady Kollmann took fifth in 17:49 and Josh Frey was 10th in 18:06.
Mayville was second led by Chance Feller’s fourth place in 17:34.
Lomira was third as a team and Markesan was fourth. Tate Hillmann ran in 18:02 for a seventh-place showing for the Hornets, while Austin Holman was 12th for Lomira and Dylan Schmidt took 13th.
Campbellsport’s top runner was Tyler Beres, who took 14th in 18:25. Ryan Easterson led North Fondy/Oakfield with a time of 18:18, good for 11th. Kristopher Lefeber took 36th to lead New Holstein.
The Waupun girls were seventh among large schools paced by Hannah Smith in 28th (18:00) followed by Ronna Woock in 33rd and Nicole Crescio in 37th.
In the small school group, Mayville was third followed by Lomira and WLA. Campbellsport took seventh followed by New Holstein and Markesan. North Fondy took 13th.
The top individual finisher was Abi Theander from WLA, who took seventh in 16:36, four seconds better than Mariah Giffey.
Brittaney Danner took 11th in 17:08 to lead Mayville, and Brianna Falk was 13th in 17:09 for Lomira’s top time.
Lizzy Fellion paced Campbellsport in 17:56 for 26th place. New Holstein’s top runner was Montana Braun, who took 3rd in 18:07. Markesan was led by Veronica Sauerbrei, who was 42nd in 18:35. Jenny Schwersinske took 27th for North Fondy in 17:58.
