The Winnebago Lutheran football team kept its playoff hopes alive while taking a big chunk out of Mayville’s chances on Friday night. WLA won 21-14 at Mayville’s Ray Dunn Field.
Filling in at quarterback, Brandon Schilling had a big day for WLA (2-4, 2-3) 146 yards on 6 of 8 passing. Drew Stroede had 110 yards rushing and all three touchdowns for the Vikings.
Mayville’s Brandon Mueller completed 13 of his 22 passing attempts for 173 yards and a touchdown to Casey McDermott, who finished with 105 yards on eight catches.
Mayville trailed 13-0 at halftime, but scored all 14 of its points in the fourth quarter to take a lead. However, Stroede scored his third touchdown of the night with 3:54 remaining to give WLA the victory.
KML 34, Lomira 14
Lomira led at home at halftime, but KML’s offense was too strong in the second half.
Ethan Hackbarth threw a touchdown pass to Bryce Bannach in the second and fourth quarters for the Lions (0-6, 0-5).
Hackbarth threw for 276 yards, Bannach had seven grabs for 113 yards and Jimmy Miley caught six passes for 93 yards.
Omro 35, North Fondy 15
Turnovers were a problem for North Fondy in Omro. The Orioles lost two fumbles and threw seven interceptions.
Colton Krupp and Matt Triatik each had short rushing touchdowns for North Fondy (1-5, 1-4). Zach Zander caught seven passes for 73 yards as North Fondy’s top yard gainer.
“We just can’t make that many mistakes and expect to win against a good team,” said North Fondy coach Zac Ruch.
