IF
Austin Cangelosi
Sandburg
A 6-foot-1 shortstop, Cangelosi hit over .400 with six homers as a senior to earn Class 4A All-State first team honors. The son of former MLB player John Cangelosi, Austin will play his college ball at Indiana.

The Gatorade State Player of the Year was 11-0 with 0.41 ERA, striking out 106 batters in 68 innings. Not enough? The Illinois-bound Roper also hit .468 with 10 homers, 39 RBIs and 46 runs scored for the Bulldogs.

IF/P
Mike Kornacker
St. Laurence
Junior
A Louisville Slugger High School All-American, Kornacker more than lived up to the hype, going 7-1 with five shutouts — including two perfect games. He has committed to Purdue.

Chicago Sun-Times Player of the Year helped lead the Caravan to the 4A state title, hitting .425 with 33 RBIs. He’ll play his college ball for Northern Illinois.

Senior
An Appalachian State signee selected by the Mets in the MLB Draft, Brill hit .362 with six homers and 33 RBIs as a senior. The 6-foot-2 right-hander also fanned 74 batters in 47.2 innings, posting a 1.76 ERA.

P

An All-State first team selection, Dennis was 8-1 with a 1.83 ERA this spring, striking out 98 batters in 68.2 innings. He signed with Bradley University.

UT
Bryce Only
Huntley

While impressive, Only’s .362 average, six homers and 30 RBIs were par for the course. What was more striking was that the Nebraska-bound senior was one of the state’s top pitchers despite having rarely ever pitched.
