St. Joseph’s, senior
First-round MLB draft pick headed to play with the St. Louis Cardinals, he went 10-0 with a 0.10 ERA and averaged almost two strikeouts per inning to earn Gatorade state Player of the Year.

Matt Thaiss
Jackson, senior
Was a late-round MLB draft selection but will play at Virginia after batting .351 with four homers, 16 extra-base hits and 19 RBI.

Mike Shawaryn
Gloucester Catholic, senior
Led team to a fourth straight state title with an 8-2 record and 0.63 ERA. He threw three no-hitters this year, was picked in the MLB draft and will play at Maryland.

Ryan Williamson
Cranford, senior
Lefty was a MLB draft pick but will play at North Carolina after going 11-0 with a 0.56 ERA and also batting .419 with 27 RBI for best team in state.

Juan Reina
Passaic Tech, junior
Broke just about every program record on offense, batting .602 with 10 home runs, 40 RBI, 30 runs and 17 steals.

Tom Marcinczyk
Middlesex, senior
Headed to Rutgers after outstanding season that saw him bat .563 with 35 RBI and 45 runs scored. Also went 11-0 with a 1.11 ERA on the mound.

Russell Messler
Toms River South, junior
One of the state’s top recruits for 2014, he batted over .500 for a second straight year and also had seven home runs, 20 RBI, 22 steals and 39 runs scored.

Andrew DiPiazza
Central Regional, senior
Flame-thrower already getting interest from some big-name schools, he went 9-0 with 108 strikeouts and a 0.85 ERA.

Mike Carter Jr.
Bloomfield, senior
Rutgers recruit was one of the most consistent players in the state over a four-year career and leaves with a school-record 152 hits.

Tom Flacco,
Eastern, junior
Batted over .400 with an on-base percentage over .500, he had five home runs, 38 RBI, 38 runs scored and 29 steals to lead team to Group 4 state title.
