Runner Of The Year –Bella Burda
Vital stats: Burda placed fourth at the Section 1 Class A championship with a mark of 19:26.28 to qualify for the state meet, where she placed 25th (18:34.20). She also won the Section 1 Conference I League A championship (18:50.50), and the Burnt Hills Invitational (17:25).
Quotable: “This year we wanted her to run consistently,” Arlington coach Diana Interrante said. “She’s our team captain and has always been a great leader. She motivates the rest of the team and really is in tune with what is going on with the team.”
Vital stats: Donlon finished fourth in the Section 9 Class C championship (20:15.06), and eighth in the Mid-Hudson Athletic League championships (21:11.62). The senior finished 54th at the state Class C meet (20:06.00).
Quotable: “She is graduating Dover holding every single distance record for cross country, indoor and outdoor,” Dover coach Matt Pool said. “She had a very disappointing junior year because of a foot injury. She worked very hard over the summer to get back to where she was and her goal was to make states.”
School: New Paltz
Vital stats: Ferguson placed 12th overall in the Section 9 Class B championship race (20:42). She also took fourth in the MHAL championships (20:46.31).
Quotable: “Cami has been a three-year, state-meet participant,” New Paltz coach Ann Gregory said. “She ran injured a good portion of the year and couldn’t train hard. She has a love of running and has been a good role model in her dedication to preseason training and with her leadership role as a captain this year.”
Vital stats: Gordon placed fifth in the Section 9 Class C championships (20:19.43), and fifth in the MHAL championship race (20:57.06). Gordon finished 45th in the state Class C meet (19:59.90).
Quotable: “Kerry works extremely hard and uses running as a stress relief,” said Highland coach Mike Milliman, who believes Gordon is Highland’s first girls runner to ever qualify for the state meet. “She worked well with the boys team.”
Vital stats: LaTuso placed fourth in the Northern Counties meet (20:42.15). The sophomore placed 14th in the Section 1 Coaches Invitational (21:04.73) and 20th in the Section 1 Class A championships (21:23.71).
Quotable: “I look forward to the continual progress that Meghan is making in her running,” Arlington coach Diana Interrante said. “She has made consistent contributions this season.”
Vital stats: Marvin finished fifth at the Section 1 Class C championships with a time of 20:28.10, and third at the Northern Counties meet (20:42.15). Marvin placed 10th in the state Class C meet (19:07.30).
Quotable: “She was the captain,” Pawling coach Adam Muroski said. “She was a hard worker and has been on the team for three years. She’s been training all summer and had a lot of goals that she met to cap off a great season.”
Coaches of the Year — James Kelly and Adam Muroski
Vital stats: Kelly and Muroski were coaches under Pawling legend Jack Power until he stepped down this year. Kelly took over as head coach for the boys, while Muroski took charge of the girls. Both teams won their respective Section 1 Conference I League C titles. Two Pawling runners — Sarah Marvin and Kevin Langone — qualified for the state meet.
Quotable: “We take this very seriously,” Kelly said. “We want to fill (Power’s) shoes and keep the level of interest with the kids. It is a big challenge to keep going what he started.”
