7 county players chosen for TACA all-star football game

Seven Rutherford County football players and two District 7-AAA head coaches were selected for the seventh annual TACA Toyota East-West All Star Classic scheduled for 7 p.m. on Dec. 13 at Tucker Stadium at Tennessee Tech.

All will play or coach for the East team.

Blackman 6-foot, 170-pound cornerback and wide receiver Styles Corder along with linebacker Antonio Allen (6-3, 235) will represent the Blaze on the East roster.

Mercer commits Caleb Yates, a 6-4, 285-pound offensive lineman, and teammate Austin Barrett, a 6-3, 275-pound defensive lineman, will represent Oakland. Oakland coach Thomas McDaniel is the defensive coordinator for the East team.

Mr. Football finalist and running back Denzel Harding (5-10, 175) along with linebacker Nick Peters (5-11, 215) will represent Siegel.

Riverdale defensive back Tad Onwu (6-0, 175) also was chosen.

La Vergne coach Stanton Stevens will also be an assistant. Former Siegel offensive coordinator Steve Matthews, who is currently the Knoxville Catholic head coach, will be the East team offensive coordinator.

MTSU commitments Jessie Moffitt and Carlos Johnson were chosen for the West team. Moffitt is a 6-3, 290-pound offensive lineman at Goodpasture. Johnson is a 6-4, 315-pound offensive lineman for Pearl-Cohn.
