KUSA – After another great year of high school athletics, we’ve narrowed down the top nine teams of the year.
No. 9 – Niwot girls track and field: The cougars won their first ever team state title led by Elise Cranny’s three individual championships and two meet records.
No. 8 – ThunderRidge baseball: A 21-5 record and a dominating run thru the playoffs en route to the school’s second state baseball championship.
No. 7 – Regis Jesuit boys and girls swimming: A clean sweep for the raiders. The boys dominated in the spring just after Missy Franklin led the girls team to a title in the winter.
No.6 – Liberty-Stratton football: Fitting for the six man football team that finished a perfect 12-0 and as state champions.
No. 5 – Lewis Palmer boys basketball: The rangers of Lewis Palmer are the fifth team of 2013. Back to back state champions for l-p and nobody got all that close to them in the playoffs.
No. 4 – Wheat Ridge softball: A 24-1 season that finished with the 4A state championship.
No. 3 – Colorado Academy field hockey: They’re riding a 35 game unbeaten streak and have won two straight state titles.
No. 2 – Colorado Academy boys soccer: The mustangs boys soccer team also won a second straight championship and extended their unbeaten streak to 40 in the process.
No. 1 – Valor Christian football: The dominance continues. The Eagles haven’t lost to an in-state opponent in nearly two years. Their season ends with yet another celebration at mile high, five straight state titles for the Eagles. Valor Christian is the top team from 2013.
