(WLTX) — For the second year in a row, A.C. Flora is the champion of 3A baseball.
In a battle of the birds, the Falcons defeated the Airport Eagles 11-3 Monday to win the best-of-three championship series in two games.
For A.C. Flora head coach Andy Hallett, it was his fourth career state title with the Falcons.
Donald Gillespie was the catalyst for the Flora offense as he belted a two-run home run in the first and added a two-run double in the fourth as the Falcons jumped out to an 8-3 lead at that point and were never threatened. Gillespie drove in five of the Falcons’ 11 runs.
The loss overshadowed a major turnaround year for Airport which won only four games in 2012. The Eagles set a school record with 26 victories and their first Lower State title in 29 years.
