After hiatus, basketball classic is back

The Twin State all-star senior basketball classic was shelved for three years. Saturday, the showdown returns to the hardcourt.

Revived by a group of local coaches led by Essex’s Jeff Goodrich, the showdown between recently graduated all-star seniors from Vermont and New Hampshire resumes for the first time since the 30th anniversary in 2010.

The girls game opens the doubleheader with an opening tip at 6 p.m. at Essex High School. The boys game will follow approximately at 7:45.

Tickets cost $5 for adults and $2 for 17 and under. Ages 5 and under are free.

Rutland’s Mike Wood will serve as the Vermont boys head coach, with assistants Peter Quinn (Vergennes) and Mike Kennedy (South Burlington).

Connie Larose, who led Mount Abraham to the Division II crown in the winter, will guide the girls squad. Her assistants will be Ute Otley of Champlain Valley and Billy Waller of Vergennes.
