Airline beats Red River in Doc Edwards Invitational

Noah Hildebrand scored 17 points as the host Airline Vikings jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in defeating the Red River Bulldogs, 59-44, Friday night at the Doc Edwards Invitational at Benton High School.

With the win, the Vikings will face Parkway at 12:30 p.m. today at CenturyLink Center in the boys’ consolation finals of the tournament.

Austin Brannon added 14 points for Airline, who improved to 6-7 with the win.

Telvin Lewis led Red River with 13 points in defeat.

Parkway 95, Haughton 70: At Benton Middle School, the Panthers pounced on the Bucs early, jumping out to a 21-point halftime lead en route to the win at the Doc Edwards Invitational.

Gabe DeCuir led five Parkway players in double figures, scoring 15 points as the Panthers improved to 4-5. Juwan Johnson had 14 points, Ahamran Williams dropped in 12, and Rob Harper and William McKnight added 10 each for Parkway, who will play Airline at 12:30 p.m. today in the boys’ consolation finals of the tournament at CenturyLink Center.

P.J. Douglas and Tay Woodard scored 15 points apiece in defeat for Haughton (5-8).

North Webster 60, Bossier 55: At Benton High, Montavious Smith fired in 29 points to hold off a hot shooting performance from the Bearkats’ Kentrell Hardy as the Knights advanced in the Doc Edwards Invitational.

Lyntravious Gipson added 13 points for North Webster as it improved to 12-6 on the season.

Hardy hit seven 3-pointers among his 29 points, while Devonte Hall dropped in 13 as Bossier fell to 7-6.

Huntington 61, Plain Dealing 46: At Airline High, the Raiders raced out to a 41-20 halftime lead, had 10 different players score at least one point, and defeated the Lions at the Doc Edwards Invitational.

Aldon Kelly led all scorers with 18 points – all coming on six 3-pointers – and Riley Anderson added 11 for Huntington in the win.

Ja’Carlius Stromile scored 13 points to lead Plain Dealing (8-4).

St. Thomas More 60, Northwood 43: The Cougars broke open a tight game by outscoring the Falcons 35-20 after halftime to take the win at the Sunkist Invitational in Lafayette.

Martavious Washington scored 20 points to lead all scorers as Northwood fell to 7-7. The Falcons face Lafayette Christian at 5:30 p.m. today in the tournament’s consolation round.

Orynn Veillon led St. Thomas More with 18 points as the Cougars improved to 12-1.

Lakeview 64, Ouachita 61: At West Monroe High School, the Gators outscored the Lions 26-17 in the decisive fourth period as the advanced in the West Monroe Holiday Classic.

Tay Hardy scored 13 points and Jerald Bush fired in 12 as Lakeview improved to 12-2. Adrio Bailey added 10 points for the Gators.

Kenny Ross led all scorers with 22 points for Ouachita.

Stanley 74, Evans 55: Alize Elam erupted for 30 points as the Panthers jumped out to a 37-20 lead after two periods en route to the victory over the Eagles at Stanley.

Tyler Howard added 13 points as Stanley improved to 6-13 with the win.

Dakota Westlake scored 16 points and Justin Holcomb had 14 for Evans.


Haughton 51, Plain Dealing 29: At Benton High, the Lady Bucs bolted out to an 18-2 lead after one period and coasted past the Lady Lions to advance to the consolation finals of the Doc Edwards Invitational.

Abone’ Green led all scorers with 14 points and Brittney Robinett added 13 as Haughton stretched its record to 14-3. The Lady Bucs will face Huntington at 11 a.m. today at CenturyLink Center in the consolation finals.

Danaka Thomas scored nine points to lead Plain Dealing in defeat.

Huntington 54, Northwood 44: At Benton Middle, the Lady Raiders got a monster performance from Caitlyn Jenkins to advance to the consolation finals of the Doc Edwards Invitational with the win over the Lady Falcons.

Jenkins led all scorers, pumping in 35 points, while teammate Kierra Sims added 12 as Huntington improved to 8-4. The Lady Raiders will face Haughton at 11 a.m. today at CenturyLink Center in the consolation finals.

Keasia Stephens dropped in 20 points to lead Northwood as it fell to 3-12.

Mansfield 57, Southwood 51: At Airline High, Ashlyn Jacobs and Taylor Peoples scored 11 points each as the Lady Wolverines edged the Lady Cowboys in a topsy-turvy affair at the Doc Edwards Invitational.

Mansfield jumped to an 18-9 lead after one period, only to have Southwood storm back and take a 27-25 advantage at halftime. The Lady Wolverines outscored the Lady Cowboys 32-27 in the second half to get the victory.

Chelsea Tieuel continued her hot shooting, leading all scorers with 19 points for Southwood.

Benton 50, Green Oaks 46: At Benton High, Madi Sessions led four Lady Tigers in double figures with 11 points in their victory over the Lady Giants at the Doc Edwards Invitational.

Brandi Harris, Megan Fream and Gabby Jackson scored 10 points each as Benton improved to 10-6.

Princess Davis led all scorers with 18 points and Jalishia Brown added 14 as Green Oaks fell to 11-4.

North Caddo 58, Natchitoches Central 54: At West Monroe, the Lady Rebels sprinted out to a 35-18 halftime edge and held off a furious second-half rally by the Lady Chiefs at the West Monroe Holiday Classic.

Jasmine Thomas scored 23 points to lead all scorers as North Caddo improved to 14-1. Sumer Williams pumped in 12 points and DeDe Shephard added 11 for the Lady Rebels, who play St. Thomas Aquinas today at 11:20 a.m. and Ouachita at 5:20 p.m.

Princess Cohen led Natchitoches Central with 18 points as the Lady Chiefs fell to 11-4.

Stanley 61, Evans 25: Michee Alexander had another huge game, scoring 24 points as the Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Eagles 43-8 in the first half and overwhelmed the visitors for the win at Stanley.

Macey Nash pumped in 15 points on five 3-pointers, and Tasha Hall added 12 points as Stanley remained undefeated at 24-0.
