THE WINNER: Leroy Elliott
THE BASICS
School: West Anchorage (Alaska)
Grade: Senior
Position: WR/RB/DB
Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 180 pounds
Athletic achievement: He led the Eagles to a 9-2 record and the Large School state championship this past season. Elliott caught 44 passes for 843 yards and 10 touchdowns and rushed for 277 yards on 16 carries, scoring seven touchdowns. Defensively, he contributed 45 tackles, including 28 solo tackles and a pair of interceptions. The 2013 Alaska School Activities Association Offensive Player of the Year, he averaged 18.7 yards per touch and scored a touchdown once every 3.5 times he possessed the ball.
Academic excellence: Elliott has maintained a 3.11 GPA.
Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally as an elementary school guest speaker and as a youth football coach.
THE PRAISE
“Leroy Elliott was far and away the best football player in the state this year,” said Jeff Trotter, head coach at East Anchorage (Alaska). “He was a human highlight reel during most games and the reason for West's turn around after their 0-2 start. He led by example on and off the field.”
THE FUTURE: Elliott remains undecided upon a collegiate destination.
