Smyrna High senior Zach Haynes wrapped up a standout high school golf career with a state runner-up finish in October.
Today, the UT-Martin signee headlines The Daily News Journal’s 2013 All-Area Golf Team.
Haynes lost on the second hole of a playoff to lose his bid to become Smyrna’s first state golf champion.
The District 7-AAA individual champion finished his prep career as a four-year first-team member of The DNJ’s all-area team.
Joining Haynes on the first team on the boys side are Eagleville junior Dakota Beech, Riverdale junior Cole Clear, Blackman sophomore Tanner Owens and Oakland junior Austin Pfeifer.
The trio of Beech, Clear and Owens all advanced to the state tournament in their respective TSSAA classification along with Haynes. Beech played in the A/AA state tournament, while Owens and Clear both played in the AAA tournament.
Owens was named to the first team for the second straight year.
On the girls side, three-time state qualifier Abbey Burgdorf leads the first team after placing seventh at the TSSAA Class A/AA state tournament. It was Burgdorf’s best finish at state.
Burgdorf is joined on the first team by Blackman junior Cailyn Johnston and Riverdale sophomore Reagan Kinnie.
All three girls reached the state golf tournament this season for the second consecutive year.
