All-conference softball: Mayville's Giese leads Flyway selections; Pegram named POY in Trailways North

Flyway Conference softball champion Mayville peppered the all-conference teams with its roster, including the league’s Player of the Year, it was announced recently.

Senior Paige Giese garnered top honors in the conference and was one of two unanimous first-team all-league selections along with senior Amanda Schultz.

Junior D.D. Weinberger and sophomore Libby Shellpfeffer were also selected to the 12-member first team from the Cardinals.

Giese and Schultz were among the seven unanimous first-team selections and included seniors Nikki Guell of Laconia, Cassie Roecker of Lomira, Samantha Kraus of Winnebago Lutheran and junior Julia Moul of St. Mary’s Springs.

Kettle Moraine Lutheran senior Katy Jahns was also a unanimous first-team selection.

Rounding out the first team were sophomores Kayla Jacob of Laconia and Kelli Schrauth of St. Mart’s Springs as well as senior Ashley Zander of Kettle Moraine Lutheran.

Lomira landed three players on the second team in seniors Maria Rodriguez and Hannah Michaels as well as freshman Megan Andes. Laconia senior Cassie Isaac and junior Emily Ostram and St. Mary’s Springs’ senior Brianne Lisowe and Franci Maresse were also named to the second team as were senior Jenny Schwesinke of North Fond du Lac, junior Megan McTrusty of Winnebago Lutheran and freshman Mattie Klingenmeyer of Mayville.

Area honorable mention selections were Sabrian Schneider and Nicole Stahmann of Laconia; Michaela Luedtke, Paige Bartelt, Brittany Soboleski of Lomira; Haylee Arroyo of Mayville; Nicole Seidl of North Fond du Lac; Destiny Ottery, Eleanore Mueller and Katleyn Schueffner of St. Mary’s Springs; and Rachel Haugly and Rebecca Marchant of Winnebago Lutheran.

Conference champion Oakfield had three first-team all-league selections, led by Player of the Year, Charlotte Pegram.

Pegram, a senior, was joined on the 13-member first team by sophomore McKaela Ryan and senior Taylor Nolan.

The Oaks also had five players selected to the second team in juniors McKenna Ryan, Dana Swanson and Aly Uttendorfer, sophomore Madelyn Ryan and freshman Alyssa Sabel.

Fond du Lac sophomore Angel Payne earned a spot on the all-FVA first team as a utility player, the only Cardinal selected to the 16-member first team.

Senior Callie Troutfetter of FVA champion Oshkosh West was named the Player of the Year in the conference.

Waupun landed three players on the all-EWC first team, while Campbellsport had one first-team honoree it was announced by the league.

Senior infielder Mackenzie Winning, junior infielder Kelsey Thompson and junior pitcher Tiffany Killam each landed a spot on the 13-member first team after leading the Warriors to the conference title.

Senior infielder Holly Loomans, senior outfielder Joslyn Kounelis and sophomore outfielder McKenna Keach were each named to the second team for Waupun.

Junior pitcher Brianna Gruenwald was the Cougars’ lone first-team selection, while sophomore catcher Nicole Hepp and junior infielder Hayley Emmer were named to the second team.

Earning honorable mention honors for Campbellsport were junior infielder Katie Schumacher, freshman outfielder Chey Renderman and junior utility player Hailey Zangl.
